C-17A  - s/n 96-0006  -  'The Spirit of Berlin'  -  1998-2003

During the first event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift on May 14th, 1998, US President Bill Clinton and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl dedicated C-17A s/n 96-0006 as the "Spirit of Berlin". The Berlin Airlift ('Luftbrücke') was a U.S.-led allied effort to supply West Berlin's 2.5 million people with food and fuel during the Soviet blockade lasting from June 1948 through September 1949.
